Jesus Night at American Idol
Tonight's American Idol Results Show was interesting in two ways. First, before tonight, I had never heard of a band called the the Clark Brothers. American Idol featured them on the show tonight because the Clark Brothers recently won Fox's Great American Band competition. Anyhow, these three guys came out and performed "This Little Light of Mine." It was incredible in its passion and originality.
So, then several minutes later Dolly Parton comes out and performs her new song, "Jesus and Gravity." The last half of the song was like a worship concert. I was sitting on my couch being blown away (and no, not necessarily by Dolly's voice).
It's interesting that you have all of these Christian artists and bands trying to say as little about Jesus as possible so that they can garnish a wider fan base, and then you have mainstream artists like Carrie Underwood, the Clark Brothers, and Dolly Parton singing ABOUT Jesus. Makes me think that there is a desire in the world for original, passionate displays of our faith in the Jesus.
