A Contrarian's Guide to Knowing God

A friend recently recommended that I take a look at A Contrarian's Guide to Knowing God: Spirituality for the Rest of Us by Larry Osborne. Anyhow, picked it up this afternoon and am really intrigued with Osborne's premise that all of our well-intended religious formulas for knowing God may not be as helpful and effective as we tend to think.

According to Osborne, the danger of believing that if we just DO all of the religious stuff that we're SUPPOSED to do is that "those who score way above average on the giftedness, intensity, or influence meter often become puffed up with pride. While they may mouth politically correct words about giving God all the credit, most don't really believe it... And can you blame them? In a system where significant spiritual impact is available to anyone willing to pay the price, those who have it must be more committed than those who don't" (p. 46). Ouch! What do you think? In your life, when have you observed spiritual growth and connections with God really occurring?

Ken, I like the new format. I have been wanting to read that book as well. You will have to let me know if it is worth it. It was great seeing last week.
