How to be Free!

“Jesus said to the people who believed in him,
‘You are truly my disciples if you remain
faithful to my teachings. and you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free.’” (John 8:31-32, NLT)

Jesus seems to be saying that belief in him is not enough... our belief must lead to action. He says, you are truly my followers or disciples IF you remain faithful to my teachings. How do we remain faithful to Christ’s teachings? Through obedience! And then listen to what he says next, obedience will lead to knowing the truth. You may not WANT to obey... It may not seem to make sense. But if you will remain faithful (ie: obey) Jesus’ teaching, then you will KNOW THE TRUTH. We want it the other way around! We want the revelation or the truth FIRST and THEN we’ll obey. But this isn’t the pattern that Jesus offers!

And then listen to what happens next... Truth will open your eyes to the shackles that you never saw before... You will finally really get that in Christ, you are no longer a slave to sin. But only Christ’s truth gets you to that place, and before you can get to that place, you’ve got to obey, and before you obey, you’ve got to believe that Jesus is who He says He is! Wow!
