Journey's Vision - #1 Transformation

On Sunday morning, we looked at the birth of Nehemiah's vision and spent a few minutes looking at six aspects of Journey Church's vision. Over the next six days, I want to unpack each of those aspects. Before I dive into the first, I want to remind you that vision doesn't equal "nuts and bolts" strategy! So, if you're looking for the "how we're going to achieve this stuff" part, we really haven't gotten there, yet! I feel very strongly that until we're dead-set on what we want our church to become, our well-intended strategies will never really help us.

The first aspect of our vision is TRANSFORMATION.

We dream of seeing average, ordinary people transformed more and more into the image of Christ. Imagine seeing teenagers move from not even having God on their radar to becoming actual, active apprentices of Jesus Christ! Imagine angry, abusive men transformed into men of tender gentleness! Imagine a place where selfish, stingy people become givers! Where dividers become uniters!

Transformation comes from our commitment to communicate God’s Word in an engaging and helpful manner. It is the result of teaching people how to consistently read and study the Bible for themselves. It will come through authentic relationships with other Christ-followers where masks can be lowered and truth can be told. We dream of a safe place where genuine transformation is pursued by everyone, regardless of leadership position.

We talk about this aspect of our vision first, because it is most important. If lives are not being transformed, we are wasting our time and we are wasting God's resources. Transformation is not measured through attendance figures and financial statements, it is measured in the stories that are told. It is measured in the families and workplaces that are impacted. We dream of Journey becoming a TRANSFORMATION CENTER!
