Thoughts on Moving to Fremont, Ohio

Several days ago, Keri and I finally made public our plans to plant a church in Fremont, Ohio. During the Sunday morning announcement time at South Hills Assembly (the church that we have served at for the past six years), I communicated to the congregation how Keri and I are absolutely convinced that God is transitioning us. It was really a rather quick announcement, and so I don’t think that I was quite prepared for how emotional that day would be for me and for others. Six years is both a long time and a short time!

It’s been amazing to look back at all that God has accomplished during this time period. When we moved to Pittsburgh, Keri and I had been married for about four weeks! I had just turned twenty-three and Keri had recently turned twenty! We were so young, and yet we were filled with great passion and a quiet confidence that God was with us and that He could use us to do whatever He purposed! What a ride it has been! We’ve made so many great friendships, and have seen so many positive results—changed lives—over the past few years! It’s been amazing to see how God has changed me at the same time! There have been so many quiet battles that the Holy Spirit has won in my own life. I know that I am slowly becoming!

When I think about the challenge that awaits us in Fremont, I feel a lot of the same feelings that I had when Keri and I first moved here to Pittsburgh. I’ve got such a sense of excitement inside of me when I think about what can be! But, at the same time, when I allow myself to think about this journey’s level of difficulty, I wonder if I’m crazy to think that I’ve actually got what it takes. Yet, even these emotions excite me, because they cause me to better realize my utter dependence upon the Holy Spirit—that only He can accomplish this vision!

“God, without your divine touch upon every single detail of this journey, we are merely engaging in a futile act of insanity! Drench us, soak us, and immerse us in Your Holy Spirit! Give us favor and wisdom to accomplish only what You have purposed already. Let Your name and renown truly become the desires of our hearts.”
