Rooted and Established

Ephesians 3:17b-18, "And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ." (NIV)

Several years ago I was talking to a construction worker who was digging in order to pour some footers. He made a statement that still impacts me: "If you don't go deep, you can't go high." So many believers are lacking real power, because there isn't very much depth to their lives. Paul asks God for our "roots to go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love" (NLT).

Where do you get your nourishment and stability? Are you feeling unstable and spiritually malnourished? Maybe you need to pray that God might give you the power to GRASP ("to lay hold of with the mind") the multi-dimensions of His love. Spend a few minutes today meditating on Ephesians 3:17-18 and remind yourself of God's love demontrated toward you when Jesus took upon Himself the death penalty that you deserve.
