God's Gig

1 Corinthians 3:7-9, “The ones who do the planting or watering aren’t important, but God is important because he is the one who makes the seed grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters work as a team with the same purpose. Yet they will be rewarded individually, according to their own hard work. 9 We work together as partners who belong to God. You are God’s field, God’s building—not ours.” (NLT)

The Message paraphrase puts the same passage this way, “It’s not the one who plants or the one who waters who is at the center of this process but God, who makes things grow. Planting and watering are menial servant jobs at minimum wages. What makes them worth doing is the God we are serving. You happen to be God’s field in which we are working.”

Five weeks into the church planting process, I’m slowly beginning to realize that this is God’s gig. I’m just an extra in a movie that stars God as the headlining hero. God is at the CENTER of this PROCESS. He’s the one who makes things ACTUALLY GROW. The people that I witness to and invite to Journey Church are “God’s field, God’s building!” This realization has been so liberating!

As a pastor I agree with you Ken. I came to the realization is that this thing called church is God's idea. If it was my idea, the pressure would be on me to make it work. But since it's God's idea the pressure is on Him. He doesn't seem freaked out by the pressure, so neither ahould I.
